Dear Fellow Cyclist,

On behalf of the Cajun Cyclists Bicycle Club, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for ordering our jersey. I trust that it will serve you well in your bicycling endeavors for years to come. You are now an "official" member of our club, as we have no dues or membership fees. The Cajun Cyclist Club jersey design is based around the Acadian Flag (above) and I thought you would like knowing some history on it.

Since 1965, the official Louisiana Acadian Flag has been flown proudly throughout Acadiana. Descendants, of the French-Acadian, or Cajun people largely populate the 22-parish area of south Louisiana. It is flown, in the memory of their forefathers being banished from Nova Scotia for religious and political reasons in the mid 18 th century.

The three Fluer De Lis on a blue field represents the French origin of the Acadians with a portion of the arms dedicated to their mother country.

The Old Arms of Castille-a gold tower on a red field-represents Spain, the nation that controlled Louisiana during the migration of the Acadians. The Acadian people prospered under the Spanish rule after their exile from Nova Scotia.

The gold star is the official symbol of the Virgin Mary, under the title of Our Lady of the Assumption. In 1938, Pope Pius XI solemnly proclaimed, "Our Lady of the Assumption" as the Patroness of all Acadians -those in Canada, Louisiana, and all points elsewhere.

It is our hope that you wear our jersey in good health throughout the years, and remember to ride courteously and safely as you are now a representative of our organization. If you have any photos of you and your jersey in places around the country or the world we would love to see them and post them to our website. The address is on the side panel of your new jersey or just e-mail the webmaster and send it to him.

Once again, congratulations and thank you on your purchase.

Good riding,

Scott S. Coco
